Privacy policy
Last updated October 5, 2026
Polltater is a place to answer questions and see how everyone else answered. This policy explains what we collect, what we do with it, and the choices you have. The short version: your individual answers are private, demographic details are optional and only ever shown as group totals, and we don't sell your personal information.
What we collect
- Account info. A username, and your email address if you sign in with email or Google. Guests get an account with no email.
- Your birth month and year. Asked once, before you can post, comment or add profile details, to confirm you're at least 13. It's never shown to anyone.
- What you post. Questions, photos, and comments. These are public.
- Your answers. Which option you picked on each question.
- Optional demographics. Gender, age group, country, religion, race/ethnicity and political leaning, only if you choose to add them. Every one is optional and can be cleared any time.
- Reports you file about questions or comments.
- Basic technical data. A sign-in cookie to keep you logged in, and standard server logs (like IP address and browser type) kept by our hosting providers for security.
- Visit statistics. Anonymous counts of page views and where visitors come from (Vercel Web Analytics). This uses no cookies and doesn't identify you.
How we use it
- To run the app: show questions, record your answers, and show you results after you answer.
- To show group results like “62% of women picked A.” A group only appears once enough people are in it that no one can be singled out.
- To keep the community safe: review reports, remove content that breaks the terms, and stop spam and abuse.
- To understand and improve the app, using totals rather than tracking individuals.
What other people can see
Your username and anything you post (questions, photos, comments) are public, along with which answer you picked on a question you comment on. Your individual answers, your email, your birth date and your demographic details are never shown to other users. Results, including breakdowns by group, are public and may appear in link previews, share images and search engines.
Sharing
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with services that run the app for us (Supabase for the database and sign-in, Vercel for hosting, and Google if you choose Google sign-in), when the law requires it, or to protect people's safety. We may share or publish aggregated, anonymous results (for example, percentages for a question) with the public or with partners. Those never include anything that identifies you.
Kids and teens
Polltater isn't for children under 13. If someone under 13 tries to sign up, we delete their account and data right away. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us at trentbluth@yahoo.com. For users 13–17, we don't collect religion, race/ethnicity or political leaning, and their age group is shown only as 13–17 in group results.
Your choices
- Change or clear your demographic details any time from your profile.
- Delete your account from your profile. This permanently erases your answers, questions, comments, votes and profile. Group totals already shown won't include you anymore.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your data. To make a request, email us at trentbluth@yahoo.com.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account it's removed from our database right away; backups held by our providers roll off on their normal schedule.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access to the database is locked down so people can only read their own private information. No system is perfect, so please use a unique password for any email account you sign in with.
Changes
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top and, for big changes, let you know in the app. Ads or sponsored questions, if we add them, will be labeled, and this policy will be updated first.
